Derby
Connecticut’s Smallest City
Located at the confluence of the Housatonic and Naugatuck Rivers, Derby offers a city center with historic architecture as well as scenic views.
Derby
The 417 acres that make up the Osbornedale State Park was willed to CT in 1956 by Industrialist Frances Osborne Kellogg. The park offers the citizens of Derby hiking , ice skating, picnicking, pond fishing, field sports and museum tours.
Derby has a rich industrial history that includes being home to the first electric locomotive in the US to be used for commercial hauling. That 1888 locomotive is still kept in running condition at the Shoreline Trolley Museum.
Derby is divided into two main sections by the Naugatuck River. The Derby Greenway, a multiuse trail, runs along the river for over 2 miles. The river here is also home to the Yale University boathouse, the crew teams, and the team’s spring regatta.
